The Life of a Fool
Based on the story by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa
Director – Giorgi Metonidze
Music director – Lia Darbaidze
The musical composition of Lika Darbaidze, consisting of various classical and/or contemporary themes, fits very well and precisely expresses the director’s concept. Decoration made with minimalistic methods helps the actors to assimilate the space of the stage and convey the world as seen by the main character. The lighting perfectly fits the story development. Using the lighting in various episodes, where there’s an abundance of white, reddish, light blue colours, makes the emotional impact that much more intense. Musical composition, decoration and lighting help the actors to visually convey and express their story. The actors know their bodies well and their movements are fluid and harmonic with each other.
The creative team managed to create an astounding beautiful, poetic and at the same time sorrowful play, one where Akutagawa’s deep philosophical thoughts can be seen. And for this reason, on this year’s festival, Paoli Iashvili Theater of Sachkhere received two important prizes. Giorgi Metonidze was awarded for the best directing work and Lika Darbaidze was awarded for the best musical composition.

SHEREKILEBI
Based on the story by Revaz Gabriadze.
Director – Giorgi Metonidze
Music director – Lia Darbaidze, Gocha Chogovadze.
The play “Sherekilebi” is a comedy with a talented team behind. The plot is set in an abstract city and abstract time. It is actually created by absurdities. The story is evolving in the house of the train conductor, Triphona. He also has a wife, Chitola. One day Triphona returns home with a melon and he has an argument with his wife. When left alone Triphona decided to cut the melon. Unexpectedly a gorgeous woman, Margarita emerges from the Melon. After that, Triphona splits up with his wife Chitola and moves in with Margarita. Meanwhile, every man in the city is in love with Margarita, including jail warden Khuta, a psychiatrist Noshrevan and a country boy Ertaoz. All of them try to get closer to Margarita, who is in the epicenter of the story. The performance is completely resolved by nonverbal, modern dramaturgical methods without monologues and dialogues. The entire story is told by motion, mimics, gestures and gesticulation. The characters in the play are created with non-homogeneous acting techniques and appear to be the prototypes of not only specific human beings but also the entire society.Eventually, the series of events in the play express the desire of the universe to gain freedom.
